A graduate of Ecole Centrale Paris and Sciences Po, two leading french Grandes Ecoles, Alexandre Kateb worked as an economist and a financial expert for a number of consulting firms, financial institutions and government bodies, including Banque de France and BNP Paribas, before founding and managing his own advisory firm.
Alexandre is a recognised expert in economic and financial analysis, strategic advisory and risk management for governments, financial institutions and multinational corporations. He was involved in the public debate over the overhaul of financial regulation in the European Union, following the global financial crisis (Liikanen report, French banking law, CRD II, III & IV). He was also involved in the discussions over the resolution of the sovereign debt crisis in the Eurozone, and the design and implementation of new banking and non-banking regulations (EMIR, Basel III, etc.). In 2016, he was a member of a task force created by the then prime minister of Algeria to overhaul the growth model of the country and reduce its reliance on oil.
In 2011, Alexandre Kateb published a book on the BRIC economies – titled “Les nouvelles puissances mondiales. Pourquoi les BRIC changent le monde” (Ellipses, 2011). In 2019, he published a book on the economies of the MENA region – “Les économies arabes en mouvement. Un nouveau modèle de développement pour la région MENA” (De Boeck Sup., 2019) with a foreword by former European Commissioner and WTO Director-General, Pascal Lamy. This book develops bold proposals in order to transform the MENA region into a thriving hub of innovation and sustainable development.
Alongside his work as a consultant and writer, Alexandre is an Adjunct professor at Paris Institute for Political Studies (‘Sciences Po’) where he lectures on emerging markets and global macro and geopolitical trends. Alexandre speaks and writes fluently in French (native), English, Russian and Arabic. He also reads German, Portuguese and Spanish. He is frequently invited to participate as a keynote speaker to leading conferences and high level forums. His is often quoted and interviewed by leading media outlets including BBC World, Al Jazeera, France 24, Bloomberg, Voice of America, RT, RTS and the like. He has also authored numerous op-eds for leading print and online newspapers including Le Monde, The Huffington Post, the Christian Science Monitor, O Globo, the People’s Daily, the Financial Times, among others.
